Having done some exploration of the area and the town of Wakkerstroom in December, we have been looking to expand our gravel vocabulary to include some of the awesome routes that surround the town of Wakkerstroom.

This would be a slightly tamed introduction to gravel, with milder distances than our last #gravltravl routes. More family friendly with a base at the wetlands game lodge, this is a weekend away in which you can relax after a good day on the bike. Game viewing, fly fishing and other activities are possible at the lodge. This town is a hub for birdlife viewing. Or just relax at the luxury accomodation and surroundings.

The town of Wakkerstroom is a jewel in Mpumlanaga and the second oldest town in the province. We will enjoy a lunch in the town and sample the beer and get a chance for a coffee stop.

Butterfly loops from the town can give us the options to do some solid rides, or extend slightly further, distances from 70km  up to 120km on the Saturday, and a 70km ride on Sunday before departure back home.

This is ideal for the gravel bike, but mountain bikes very welcome too. Most of the routes will be on gravel roads in the area.
